How to use it

  1. Enter your account equity (cash plus open positions) and any debts due now.
  2. Enter the XAU/USD price and the nisab in grams (85 grams of gold is widely used).
  3. Read the nisab in your currency, the zakatable amount and the 2.5% due.

Questions, answered plainly.

Do open trades count?

Most scholars count account equity, which already includes the current value of open positions.

Is the nisab based on gold or silver?

Both are used. Gold (85 g) is common today; the silver nisab is lower. Ask your scholar which to follow.

When is zakat due?

After one lunar year on wealth that stayed above the nisab. Many people pick a fixed date such as Ramadan.
